• Equip To Equip (ETE)

This program equips schoolteachers and orphanage caregivers with a variety of tools to handle both the physical and emotional needs of the children in their care.

Many Ugandan children are suffering emotionally - whether because of war, AIDS, extreme poverty, neglect or family violence. They need teachers who respond to their pain and offer positive support. When children are worried or mistreated at home, they have little interest in classroom learning. Our program trains teachers to stimulate the students' interest while also attending to their personal problems.

The program aims at a participatory approach to learning instead of the usual traditional didactic method. Teachers are shown how to work with the children in a cooperative manner and, where possible, with the cooperation of the parents.

Teachers see students on a daily basis and can easily notice changes in behavior. The teachers are taught how to recognize early warning signs of abuse and neglect and are given training in how to respond to emotional problems.

The promotion of healthy emotional and psychological development is a core part of the curriculum in the Equip to Equip program.
